Under Pressure

Thanks everyone for your kind comments on my solution to frayed cuffs and edges. I'll let you know if this sock wool does the business. It's not quite as soft as the 4 ply soft (did I mention that 4 ply it's a dream to knit with? it's so forgiving, nice and stretchy and makes my tension looks lovely.)

So, a little progress update (Anna, are you ready?)

I've just started the 3rd ball and I'm really cruising along. There's 11 inches on the back now.

Just so that you don't think that I'm cheating, I've pinned this puppy down to give you a sense of the width. It'll be about 55 inches in the chest, once I've blocked it. That's 197 stitchs + 2 selvage stitches every row.

I am a bit worried about the yarn quantity. I've used 2 balls and have a length of 11 inches. I need to knit 19.5 inches before I start the raglan decreases. The completed length will be 29.5. I'm going to have to do my maths tonight to see if I need to dash down to the shop and find more of the same dyelot.

So, Anna, don't worry. You only need to do 11 skeins and as you are onto your third you are almost 20% of the way there. I'm only just 12% so I'm putting you under pressure, but you're still way ahead of me.

For the record, I'm not an exceptionally fast knitter but, I usually wind-down and knit for approx. 2 hours in front of the TV. I'm finishing 2-3 inches a night, hardly a neck-breaking pace.

Hey Kay...

did you hug him when he went to see you? He's mighty broad, esp in the shoulders. Most men jumpers seem to have between 6 and 8 inches of ease. I suppose because men tend to wear shirts under their jumpers (in some cases, undershirt and short). I'm taking no chances that it's going to be too small.

Michele - Husband is cracking the whip on this one.. wanted to know why I was only getting between 2 and 3 inches done each night!

Sam G - after procrastinating for months, I finally did it. It's lovely to knit and the pattern is easy and less monotonous than just plain stocking stitch.

I just love this Manly Pattern. Plain but not too plain. Good on you, Polly, for knitting wool (Isn't it going to be a bit baggy on him? He's not anything approaching 52 inches around! But then again, a man likes a roomy sweater I suppose.) xox Kay

I knit about 2 hours most evenings too. Sometimes life gets busy, so I try to savor and enjoy every step of the knitting process. I'm really pleased when I complete one large project in a season.
