A Paris

I set off for a quick break to Paris over the weekend. As all the Eurostar advertisements will tell you, 2 hours 35 minutes to the heart of Paris. Of course, travelling out to Paris on Friday night, the night before the England vs France Rugby match at the Stade de France was probably not the best of timings. Several of the England supporters started celebrating the match on the train from the moment the train departed from Waterloo, so we got off to a high spirited start.

I spent Thursday evening, winding up my peace fleece, ambitiously thinking that I was going to leave Blighty with 5 wound-up cakes of yarn and to return with most of a sweater.

I tried working on it every spare moment that I had.

Check out the view behind me from the Salon du The at the Quai D'Orsay

After viewing the beautiful Impressionist paintings, I tried to just work a few more stitches before we left the museum.

When I got home, I realised that I really do have a race against time, if I'm going to get to wear this cardigan before the autumn.

My Magnolia in full bloom.

All I got to show for the weekend, is 2 sleeves and 3/4 of the front.

I think the sleeves look a bit funny. The wrist is very narrow and the portion that will connect to the body look very wide. I hope this isn't going to have a very bat-wing effect. I went through that in the 1980's already and I can only blame that fashion blunder on my youth.

Oh, fabulous pictures!! I love the one of you knitting in the salon du the. Did you wander about Paris alone? I've done that several times...I once went flew from Mexico to Spain alone when I was about 22. Visited the Prado all by myself, didn't need anyone to take me around. Wish I knew how to knit back then!

Great progress! And the setting is fantastic. Can't wait to see it when you finish.

Wow, I love that color! What an absolutely gorgeous shade. I am going to second everyone else and stand amazed at what you consider to be a piddly amount of knitting- your needles must have been flying.

Polly, I resisted yesterday but today I really have to ask - what else did you do in Paris besides knitting? To get that much done in a weekend I would need to sit and knit all day!

Next time you come sneaking over la manche, you should let us know--we can all get together and knit at Orsay together. Amazing that you finished two sleeves in a weekend. That usually takes me a year!

You must be a speed knitter to get all that done and on a vacation weekend to Paris too! The color you picked out is very pretty. The pictures in Paris are lovely I have hardly ever been out of New England. Good job knitting that much over the weekend! I only got the ribbing done on the back!

This color is really lovely. Remind of the sea with a nice and quiet light...how can you manage the visit of museums and all, AND knitting. No way I could. As written before me, and I agree, you're a miracle ;-). I also love this place in the Quai d'Orsay Museum, that not all parisians do know. Another very beautifull, and *out of time* place in the same range would be the Ladurée tea room (where one can also eat some mmmmhhh plate) on the Champs Elysées. There is a room (or several, I don't remember, it's been years now) upstairs, and you get a good view on the Champs Elysées and also can enjoy in a beautifull place, their "macarons", a joy for the palate...but well, I'll stop here, or I'll fill the comments with descriptions of pastry shops in Paris...:-)
Anyway, at the rate you're kntting, you'll have this cardi finished in no time, and wil be able to wear it before the cold days are memories.

I'm astounded at the *All* too, Wendy. 2 sleeves and 3/4 of the front? You can't possibly have had the needles out of your hands all weekend Polly. What beautiful places to do your knitting though! I hope that you and James had a wonderful weekend.

And your Magnolia looks magnificent.

*All* you had to show for it was 2 sleeves and 3/4 of the front?! What about the trip to Paris and museums and who knows what other scrummy things and you think we're going to be sympathetic that you *only* managed two sleeves and 3/4 of the front?? Polly, I think you're a miracle worker. Hope you had a great time :-)
