Chamomile Tea

Chamomile
Just a little update on chamomile. With this funky off-colour skein, I am suspicious that either someone returned the yarn after peeling off the label or there was a mix-up in the mill, because the colour variation is really different. I'm nearly done with the back and even in the poor lighting, you can see the striping effect from the 2 skeins, which are supposedly the same dyelot. I think I might write Rowan and complain. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Do you think a hot, concentrated wash might do the trick? My bamboo needles have taken on a reddish hue, so I'm pretty sure the colours will bleed.

Do you think, that I'm better off reknitting the back using 2 skeins in the same dyelot?

Should I just frog this project?

smouldering away ..

Cherry Tree Hill
Just thought that I would show off some of the Cherry Tree Hill Yarns in my hot little hands. All purchased during the January 1 sale, that I got out of bed at 4:45 am to attend. The things that we do for yarn!

My sister had demanded a scarf out of this. It's the boucle lace in winterberry.

boucle lace ..

I'm only showing these ones below. They're in my keeping for the moment, but actually belong to other Rowanettes. I'll leave it to them to confess.

possum lace and suri alpaca..

The possum lace is in blueberry hill. The suri alpaca is in Blueberry Hill, River Run and Gypsy Rose. This stuff is gorgeous, especially if you like lace knitting.

Hi, Polly. I am a Rowan design consultant, and it is Rowan's policy to replace your yarn without quibble and to compensate you for the time wasted in knitting the dud yarn. It won't be a huge amount but Rowan recognises the inconvenience and you will need to speak to Lindsay Hargreaves at Holmfirth who can sort this out. I'm very sorry you have had this bad experience, please let me know if I can be of any help. Anna.

I've always drooled over Cherry Tree Hill's yarn. Someday! Enjoy!

OK, I'm going to admit that I wanted to rip and reknit it with some yarn in a closer shade, but I wanted a second, third or fourth opinion first. I bought it at Liberty and I'm going to guess, Rowan will not redye it for me. Do I really have to knit the back 3 times! What's worst? Knowing the answer and having it echoed over and over again or living in doubt. I'm going to work on a sock until Thursday. And there I thought, I was going to get this one done too, before the end of Feb. I have strict deadlines, you know ;-)

Apologies for sending twice......

Take it back - to Libertys, if that is where you bought it? - you are a good enough customer there for them to change/refund or something. Years ago I knitted a cardigan from the same dyelot of DDK, but when finished in daylight you could see it was stripey - I sent it back to Rowan and they re-dyed it so that it was all the same slightly darker colour, and they paid postage and sent me new buttons.......

Hi Polly

shame about the Smoulder! Yes, the colour does bleed when washed, quite substantially! The Summer Tweed also stretches a lot when wet in my experience - the top I made is now mini-dress length - not a pretty sight on me.

I have some skeins left, do you want me to try to remember to bring them on Thursday and see if I have anything that is a better match?

Gorgeous yarn from Cherry Tree Hill, hope you've managed to haul some back for yourself too!
As for the rogue summer tweed - firstly phone Rowan, direct them to the blog & your photos - that striping is just not acceptable (you'll always know that it's there, whether it bleeds or not), see what they've got to say for themselves, but you should demand new skeins to knit the whole of the back without you having to frog, steam & re-use the yarn.
Good luck
Jo

Dear Polly, where did you get the summer tweed from? If direct from Rowan send it all back, if from a shop why not return it there and let them sort it out, I don't think washing it will have the desired effect and you'll probably always be looking at it thinking you can see the stripes! How very annoying it is when you put time and effort into something that goes wrong through no fault of your own, good luck, Sue.

Don't do anything with that piece of knitting, its a waste of your time washing or frogging. Parcel it up and send it back to Rowan just as it is, with the ball bands.
Then knit something lovely from your stash.

What a shame about the striping. I agree with Alpaca Woman, definitely something to tell Rowan about, their quality control is usually tons better than this so something has gone wrong. Nothing for it but to frog I'm afraid, you would never be happy with it otherwise. Apart from the colour problem it is gorgeous.

Teh Cherry Tree Hill haul is wonderful, definitely worth getting out of bed at that impossible hour for.

it'll just look sloppy if you don't reknit the back. Love the Cherry Tree Hill boucle lace... but isn't it a bit fine for a scarf or are you planning to double it?

Polly,
I would write to Rowan and complain/query this. I would also frog/abandon the back and re knit it using the same dye lot (well hopefully it will be this time). Even washing it there is no guarantee the fade/run will be the same and you will always be looking at it to see if you can see the difference. It is very noticeable right now even under photographic light. It must look really obvious in daylight.
Love the Cherry Tree Hill yarns. Now I wonder, who do they belong to?!?

Polly - Nice haul, whoever it's for!
You must tell Rowan about the rogue dye lot. It's not good enough; they'll never be able to fix a problem if they don't know it's out there.
Chamomile's looking good though :o)
