It was a very productive knitting weekend, since I really buckled down and finished the Johnnies.
It's so hard to be discipline, especially in the face of so much temptation! I can't say how happy I was when I finally kitchenered the toes together. It was fun when I started but after a while it just got tedious... That's the problem with knitting socks, especially for men with big feet. I understand entirely this references made regarding Man socks by Theresa . It's a challenge to find interesting patterns that look good in dark colours that the men in my life would wear (did I say, and not too stylish either?).
Surprisingly, there's still plenty of wool left, at least 15grams and I did these on 2.25m needles and got 8.5 stitches to the inch. Anyway, no luck over the weekend with getting the rivets for the calinectes bag, so I'm going to try again this weekend.
I'm really itching to start something bigger... and birch? All I need to do is string on 60 beads and cast on 291 stitches, 1 row stocking stitch, 5 rows moss stitch and kitchener 291 stitches and we will be ready for a block. This virtuous feeling, can't last for long... and of course, I broke.
To get my intarsia in shape for Daisy, I cast on Minnie from Rowan 33.
hi polly
just to tease... I saw Yvonne a couple of days ago and she was wearing her birch - looks gorgeous. She lightly pressed it too, which brought out the sheen of the silk wonderfully.
Dawn :)
Posted by: dawn at September 26, 2003 05:56 PMNext year, my father-in-law would get a more adventurous pair of socks... say in charcoal? It's not the first sock that get you, it's second... I always go through a bit of a panic when I knit for men. Will I have enough wool, is the foot big enough, is this tweedy blue too *hip* ?
Minnie colours ... I needed something a bit more bright after those socks. Finish by Saturday? Fat chance. I was going to use up my oddments of glace ( I have lots) but I couldn't find anything that went well with the limey green, which I got from the bargain bin in John Lewis. How is it possible that I have nearly 100 odd balls of glace in my stash and they all clash with each other?
Knit-along - probably Daisy.... Lis, can't i wait until the last minute to make up my mind? I can't be that orgranised!
Posted by: Polly at September 26, 2003 09:01 AMpolly!! minnie looks great! i am in the middle of making it too (in an orange multi!! tangelo baby) no intarsia for me just yet. more pictures soon please. btw...what are you knitting for the knitalong?
Posted by: Lis at September 25, 2003 04:57 PMHi Polly,
I made Minnie in the 2 - 3 year old size and it was finished before I knew it. I used the opportunity to use up lots of oddments of cotton glace so Brooke ended up with a multicoloured spotty and stripy version. She loves it! I really like the colours you've chosen, very bright. Will you be bringing it on the train on Saturday?
Posted by: kerrie at September 25, 2003 08:25 AMThe socks are lovely, Polly. I love to start socks, but they really do get tedious, don't they? The colours for Minnie are great, too!
Posted by: alison at September 25, 2003 02:47 AMCongratulations on finishing the Johnny socks, Polly. They look rather good, even in navy I can make out the stitchwork. Do you think Brian might be tempted by something a little brighter next time just to save your eyes?
Minnie is looking lovely, there is nothing wrong with your intarsia, you obviously have it licked. At the speed you knit no doubt you will have finished this by Saturday.
